Jules Breton (French, 1827-1906) is most notable for his paintings of the daily life of the French countryside and the peasants in the idyllic rural landscape. His early studies in the academic painting tradition supported the Realist style that he went on to master in which he aimed to honor the traditional French values and the rights of the peasants.
