Charles Angrand (French, 1854-1926) became renowned for his Neo-Impressionist paintings and drawings and was an important figure in the Parisian avant-garde scene of the late 1880s and early 1890s. His paintings are defined by Japanese-inspired compositional asymmetry and delicate handling of light and shadow executed in a pointillist technique via a muted color palette. At the end of his life, Angrand moved away from Paris and shifted his focus to drawings in pastel and conté crayon.
